 The Project!

GLOBE, with the help of University of Alaska (Fairbanks) has developed a new and exciting project called Seasons and Biomes! What is a season? What is a Biome? What are the differences that we see? Why are they different? The different activities that surround the project ask exactly those questions! We hope that as students, you will be able to use these activities and really look into “What is my Biome” and compare it to other biomes around the world. A school from the Northern Hemisphere and from the Southern Hemisphere could see how and why the seasons are opposite! Schools in Thailand could compare seasons of those in Europe?

There is an activity that covers all different aspects of seasons and biomes, which can be used as a start. It includes many of the old GLOBE Protocols and other data entries to help with determining the biome that you live in. The alumni have developed questions that can be used to compare the different school’s data. For more information consulting the Seasons and Biomes site is one resource as well as the Alumni working on the project.
